Leslie Spit

Matt and I went to the Leslie Spit around midnight. It was of course too dark for pictures, but here are some anyway.

We could hear the music from the Docks.

The plan was to see the Weakerthans for free, then go see Terminal State, then ride to the Leslie Spit. The first two happened, though I had to leave the Weakerthans' set after 45 minutes, but the third will have to wait for another time.

The A.N.S./Terminal State show was pretty crazy. But my flash is too bright, or something, so the pictures look pretty shitty.

The Terminal State show ended after a dude did something to his head, and started bleeding everywere, and had to go to the hospital. I really wanted to get a picture of him, but then I felt as though that might have been rude, so here's a picture of his blood on some stairs.

Joking about violence against women in order to sell gum

I noticed this ad a while ago, and the fact that it has apparently been up for a while is puzzling. I don't think that you need to have a degree in gender studies, or consider yourself to be "politically correct" to find this really, really offensive. I don't even know what the possibly non-offensive take on this ad could be.

I went on to the website (so, I guess the ad is effective?), and kind of expected that maybe there would be some sort of explanation as to why I should lighten up and "get" the ad. But no, they want me to sign up in order to upload my own video to the site.

The Buff to Bussalo

I decided to take the 3pm Coach Canada bus to Buffalo. It got to the station a little late, and then traffic was horrendous. It took about 45 minutes (at least) to get from the bus station to the Gardiner Expressway (and if you know Toronto, you know that's bad). As the bus reached the top of the onramp to the Gardiner, the driver pulled us over to the side. He didn't talk or say anything to us for about five minutes or so, before announcing that another bus was coming in a few minutes. Which was a little hard to believe considering that it had taken us 45 minutes to get there, and traffic was probably only getting worse.
Finally, the bus showed up, and we disembarked, on the highway.

I decided to take pictures, because how often do you walk on the Gardiner Expressway?I like Buffalo's gritty charm.
This was clearly the best "band" picture I took.

This was written on the wall of the men's bathroom at Mohawk Place. Classy.

Moroccan food

I'm a little behind, because of my trip. I'm also going to make the pho and post it here, eventually.

I was a little worried about the sweet potato, which had been sitting out in my very warm kitchen for about a day. It felt very warm, and moist, almost as though it were sweating.

Next I cut up the zucchini, which was nice and cold.

I threw that together in a wok, along with 4 or 5 cloves of garlic (my only variation on the recipe, which just called for 1 or 2).
The peppers were a lovely colour.

I added all the spices together into the water I hadn't used yet, and mixed the chickpeas and peppers in with the sweet potato and zucchini. I didn't actually take "finished" pictures of it, but it looked good, I swear.

Unlike everybody else (I think?), I added the raisins to the couscous. I was a little skeptical, having once had a traumatic experience involving dried apricots in some sort of North African dish, but reasoned that since the raisins were in the couscous and not the stew, it should be fine.
I actually really liked the raisins in the couscous. I think that they added a really nice flavour, and I'm glad that I didn't leave them out.

I served the thing to some friends, along with some homemade peppermint iced tea, and now I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Trip

I went to Pittsburgh with family, and Bloomington, Indiana by myself. It was nice.

I like the way Pittsburgh looks. However, this is the downtown, and apparently not really the place to be. The picture was taken at a baseball game (basically, it was relatively cheap, and close to the hotel we were staying at), which provides for a wicked view.

Pittsburgh has a lot of bridges, including an Andy Warhol bridge.

I forget which one this was, but apparently, one of Pittsburgh's many bridges won the most beautiful steel bridge award in 1928. What's funny (to me, at least) is that there are three identical bridges pretty much next to one another.

Yes, that is a stealth bomber flying over Pittsburgh.

Here it is a little closer.

My family and I traveled to the top of one of the "mountains" overlooking Pittsburgh on the Duquesne Incline.

Here's what it looked like.

I didn't take many Bloomington pictures that weren't band related, and I didn't take many of those, because having to take pictures at shows makes them less fun, and since my pictures of bands are never very good, it's just not worth the effort.

Terry from This Bike is a Pipe Bomb broke her wrist, so instead of playing bass, she played glockenspiel.
